Ted Sator
Head Coach / Director Of Player Personnel
The New Orleans Brass Professional Hockey Team announced today that Ted Sator would return as Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel for the upcoming 1999-2000 ECHL season. The 49-year-old Sator signed a two-year deal to remain with the organization. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"We are excited to have Ted back with the organization," said General Manager Dan Belisle, who served as assistant coach under Sator during the first two seasons with the Brass. "You couldn't ask for a better person to lead our hockey team as we prepare to play in the new Arena this season," added Belisle.
During his two seasons with the Brass, Sator has compiled a 66-51-23 mark in the regular season and his team has qualified for the playoffs both years. This past season, the Brass advanced to the Southern Conference Semifinal round after pulling off an exciting 3-2 series win over Louisiana in the Quarterfinal round in the ECHL playoffs.
"It's been terrific coming into a brand new market and see the fans enthusiasm about the team during the first two years," said Sator. "We've had a groundswell of success here and want it to carry over into the new building."
Sator is looking forward to hockey growing even more in New Orleans. "We're excited about it. We have laid the groundwork and now we are moving into a major league facility. I'm thrilled to have been here from the beginning and will do everything to continue the upward trend." added Sator.
"Dan and I are on the same page when it comes to the team we plan to put on the ice this coming season," said Sator. " We want a team that plays an up tempo style, a New Orleans flavor of Ice Hockey."
Prior to coming to New Orleans as the teams head coach, Sator's NHL experience included head coaching stints with the New York Rangers during the 1985-86 season and the Buffalo Sabres from 1987-89. In addition to his head coaching duties, Sator also spent a number of seasons as an assistant with four different teams. He was an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers from 1983-1985, assistant coach with the Boston Bruins from 1989-1991, associate coach with the St. Louis Blues from 1993-95 and an assistant coach with the Hartford Whalers during the 1995-96 season. During the 1996-97 season, Sator was a consultant/assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL and their Syracuse Crunch farm team in the American League.
The New Orleans Brass open up the 1999-2000 ECHL regular season on the road on Thursday, October 21st in Mobile. Their home opener is set for Friday, October 29th versus Baton Rouge at the new, state-of-the-art New Orleans Arena.
