The game is comprised of three 20-minute periods with 2 intermissions. The game clock only runs when the puck is play so there is actually 60
minutes of action. If the game is tied at the end of regulation, a shoot-out occurs between the two teams to determine a winner. Normally games
last about 3 hours.
Each team plays six men at a time (unless someone is in the penalty box). Substitutions are mare "on the fly" while the game is in progress.
A team scores when one of it’s players shoots the puck into the opponent’s goal with his hockey stick. A players who help set up a goal by passing
the puck to a teammate receives an assist. Only two assists can be awarded for each goal.
A win earns a team two points in the ECHL standings. A shoot-out loss is worth one point.
Watch the flying puck. Don’t get caught off guard, pucks can leave the playing surface. Frozen pieces of rubber can hurt so keep your eyes on the flying puck.
